Nothin's cheap there, but the trails are a blast and there is lots of fun to be had in the village. Oh and did I mention that females are required to be young and hot in order to work in the village?

Coffee...Whistler lacks of GOOD coffee shops. If only there was a "Bean around the world" shop in Whistler! Maybe there is one, but I couldn't find it!
there's a bakery coffee shop that serves bean - cant remember the name - its in the building next to the grocery store / liquor store in the village centeAcadian said:can I add to that...

i have to agree with you re: canadian beer. as a canadian citizen, i should be upholding the misconcieved stereotype that all american beer is piss, but quality canadian micro IS hard to find. i guess i've been spoiled by uk & belgian ales, but i've had some fantastic us microbrews. you mentioned bellingham earlier; have you tried the selection @ boundary bay? great stuff.buildyourown said:I forgot about lack of coffee. I bring my own. I hate Starbucks but it might be the best there. There is a Bean around the world next to the Starbucks by the Marketplace IGA but I have had bad experiences there. The bakery behind the old IGA and liquor store is good though. The coffee at Ingrid's is drinkable. Not great but drinkable. I often just switch to redbull when I ride Whistler.
I'm a beer and coffee snob. When I say good beer I mean real, artisan brewed, unfiltered beer. Even the stuff they call microbrew in Canada is filtered and watered down.
That's what I'm talking about. I love traveling to new riding places and sampling the trails and then heading to the pub and sampling the beer. Dechutes (sp) in Bend, Or is a great combo of both.xy9ine said:i have to agree with you re: canadian beer. as a canadian citizen, i should be upholding the misconcieved stereotype that all american beer is piss, but quality canadian micro IS hard to find. i guess i've been spoiled by uk & belgian ales, but i've had some fantastic us microbrews. you mentioned bellingham earlier; have you tried the selection @ boundary bay? great stuff.
same here...last year MMike and I went there and asked for espresso shots..I usually get a dark coffee with add shots. They said they added 2 to mine and I couldn't even taste it! MMike's Mocha was the same...it was like hot chocolatebuildyourown said:I forgot about lack of coffee. I bring my own. I hate Starbucks but it might be the best there. .

Its been a year or so since I ordered avalanche...they might well suck nowcrashing_sux said:I'll throw in my votes for Earls, Cittas, Shakespears pies and Splitz Grill for Burgers. Roasted must have different experiences with Avalanche Pizza than I did though, I had a few friends in town and we ordered two pizzas from Avalanche, both were so bad that out of 4 of us only one piece was eaten. Sad that the best pizzas in town are Domino's (if it's late) or the Pizza Hut in the IGA if it's before 9pm and you don't mind picking it up.
I promise the drivers that suck are from WA ...seriously BC drivers suck. I agree completelybuildyourown said:Things that Canada does not so well:
highway drivers (I almost killed a family of idiots in a Kia with my f-350 yesterday, locked up all four wheels going 50)
Beer
Most Restaurant Food
I'm not sure if it's that the roads are narrowed or what but I feel like people are just driving like idiots on hwy1 thru Van. I'm not that agro of a driver and I don't drive that fast but that incident scared the sh*t out of me. It's not like he was rude or going to slow in the fast lane, but he cut me off and then slammed on the brakes to let somebody else in. Very considerate to let the guy in but I don't think my 8000# truck would flinch if I ran into the back of his kia. I don't think he knows how close he came. Inches.Roasted said:I promise the drivers that suck are from WA ...seriously BC drivers suck. I agree completely
You don't like the food? We have some awesome restaurants. Even better in the city. We don't have cheap food...but for high quality stuff...we got tonnes

As for the food. I'm generalizing because 90% of my trips to Canada have been to Whistler. I have just had some really bad meals at Whistler. We ate at Tapas on Sat and it was horrible. I've had some really crunchy burgers at Lonestar. Don't even touch the pizza. Sub-par sushi. Ripped off and still hungry after Mongolian grill. I think it's one of those things were you remember the bad and the good ones fade in your memory. I usually just eat at Ingrid's and Split's when I'm in the village.
Maybe you'll have to show me the goods this weekend.
If you are parked in the parking lot near the base, the Brew House is basically across the street from the entrance to the parking lot. A lot shorter walk than going all the way around.mental said:I did find some great beer at the Whistler Brew House, although it's way the hell downhill in the village. In the big scheme of things, I'd say a 10 minute walk isn't too bad, it's just that Whistler Village can spoil you (assuming you've got the cake to play) pretty quickly!
Boston Pizza, it is a chain.Roasted said:There is one more pizza place out in creekside...forget the name thouigh. More of a pizza restaurant
Me too, not the Big Rock stuff (since leaving Calgary) but I can't get enough of that NBC Blackheart Oatmeal Stout - great stuff fo sho!CraigH said:Boston Pizza, it is a chain.
For beer, I'm currently drinking the stuff made by Nelson (from Nelson) & Big Rock (from Calgary).

As for the Brew House being close to the lot, that's true, never really thought of it, but, after 2 full days riding the hardtail, it was a long walk for those of us staying in the village (again it's all relative)
I am indeed in Nelson, though I did have to spend a good portion of this past winter in Calgary tying up some loose ends with my former employer.CraigH said:I seem to recall that you moved to Nelson? Will be in the area at the last half of August, either before or after Canmore.
BTW, your bio here still says Calgary.
A couple of weeks ago rode the lifts with FTW & Bill from Sinister. They were talking about riding with the Pinkbike guys the week before.
I'm still riding a Bullit which is the evolution of the bike I bought with your assistance years ago. Everything has been replaced at least once.
I'll be with my wife and probably my brother on our XCish bikes so will be riding more XCish trails rather than the FR stuff. Once I have an idea of our schedule, I'll let you know.mental said:I'll be here in August as far as I know, shoot me an email when you can with travel details and I'd be more than happy to show off our best stuff. I missed the Sinister ride, that was the team stuff, and I've decided to forego the race scene for a season or two to rediscover why I love bikes so much. It's been great to road trip and just ride, without any pressure, schedule or expectations.
I still miss my Bullit, one of the best all around bikes I've ever owned.
No, I knew it was a chain. Just forgot the name. Good za and wingsCraigH said:Boston Pizza, it is a chain.
