from just before the election

from just today:
Obama White House bars press from press award ceremony
We are not making this up:

Barack Obama was elected commander in chief promising to run the most transparent presidential administration in American history.

This achievement and the overall promise of his historic administration caused the National Newspaper Publishers Assn. to name him "Newsmaker of the Year."

The president is to receive the award from the federation of black community newspapers in a White House ceremony this afternoon.

The Obama White House has closed the press award ceremony to the press.

From the president's official schedule:

"Later in the afternoon, the President and the First Lady will attend a reception with the National Newspaper Publisher Association in the State Dining Room, where they will be presented the Newsmaker of the Year award. This event is closed press."

Maybe they'll let the newspaper people pass the award through the fence.
but why should he care about something as innocent as an award ceremony presented from the NNPA? here's a couple of their member's publications which his foes will have a field day with: Final Call & The Muslim Journal

there would have been no story here if hussein didn't bar the press. that's all we need now is a bunch of "i told you so back in the fall" blogs, cable news analysis, etc.

Good lord, the LATimes is trying hard (and the commenters in that thread are trying even harder), to find something to be indignant about.

I don't see any truth to the idea that the press is barred from the event. Sounds like the LAT is bitter for not getting a press pass, and are trying to make something of nothing. Hilarious to watch the sour grapers hop on this like it's ****ing watergate.

My favorite one:
Obama is a SOCIALIST ELITE and he craves POWER, and money like the BOOK DEAL he "forgot to mention" during the Campaign, and he will do ANYTHING to retain it.
Only when it "adversely affects the Press" do you hear the "questions/concerns". Well, Obama has been ADVERSELY affecting MILLIONS of Americans and EVERY American Citizen (yes, I said CITIZEN) 24/7 and we don't hear a "word" from the Main Street Media who is TOO SCARED to ask him OR this MOUTHPIECE TOUGH QUESTIONS.
TO the Press: QUIT BEING SPINELESS COWARDS and worshiping at the Obama Alter.

That means that you don't get in just because you have a standard white house press pass. That doesn't mean there won't be any press at the event.

edit: do you seriously, honestly, believe this is evidence that Obama isn't being transparent? That he isn't living up to his campaign promises? That this trumps everything else he has done to maintain transparency... the night and day shifts in white house processes versus Bush? You're right in there with the commenters on the article that Obama is part of some evil black cabal, and so is shutting the press out of what is certain to be some juicy, high-level, international intrigue?

He's getting an award from a second-rate journalist organization. What could he POSSIBLY be hiding? It's not like he's meeting with Enron or the Saudi Royal ****ing Family here.

i didn't realize you had such insight into how the press corps works; mea maxima culpa

"night & day shifts in wh processes"? this is another rhetoric gimmick much like silver's "...and you know it!", used to punctuate some bluster he hopes won't get challenged . seems to me you don't know wtf you're talking about. that's the way i see it. {{{ hugs -n- sh|t }}}

not having read the comments, i can't speak to my posts. what i said at the outset was this could be (look! it has been!) used to whip up more avoidable froth. seems to me he bowled a clumsy gutterball by being so apparently flippant. you say the org is 2nd rate, but aren't you at all concerned he would have a presumable sizeable crowd w/ plenty of opinions/positions bandied about which could potentially be news-worthy?

or...

perhaps he's grown weary of having the cum-drunk press fawning after him & wants a break.

oh, jet mag is part of the group as well. how's that for a black cabal?

US CITES SECURITY MORE TO CENSOR, DENY RECORDS
WASHINGTON (AP) -- The Obama administration has a way to go to fulfill its promises from Day 1 to become the most transparent administration in history.

More often than ever, the administration censored government files or outright denied access to them last year under the U.S. Freedom of Information Act, cited more legal exceptions it said justified withholding materials and refused a record number of times to turn over files quickly that might be especially newsworthy, according to a new analysis of federal data by The Associated Press.

Most agencies also took longer to answer records requests.

The government's own figures from 99 federal agencies covering six years show that halfway through its second term, the administration has made few meaningful improvements in the way it releases records. In category after category - except for reducing numbers of old requests and a slight increase in how often it waived copying fees - the government's efforts to be more open about its activities last year were their worst since President Barack Obama took office.

In a year of intense public interest over the National Security Agency's surveillance programs, the government cited national security to withhold information a record 8,496 times - a 57 percent increase over a year earlier and more than double Obama's first year, when it cited that reason 3,658 times.

The fair gub'ner of Noo Yawk State said a transparent doozy the other day (in relation to long delayed fracking rules):

ALBANY – New York’s budget process is "more transparent than it’s ever been," even though key negotiations are still held in private, Gov. Andrew Cuomo told NewsChannel 13 on Monday.

"Just because something is done behind closed doors doesn't mean the process isn't transparent," Cuomo said. "You can't do everything in public view always and have frank, candid, meaningful conversations."

^ That Cuomo quote was with regard to the budget process. The fracking quote I think you're referring is here:

New York’s top health official Monday said his review of hydraulic fracturing will continue behind closed doors because science needs to be conducted in a “sacred place.”

Following a meeting of Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s cabinet, state Health Commissioner Nirav Shah said scientific studies must be conducted in private to maintain objectivity.

“The process needs to be transparent at the end, not during,” Shah told reporters.
