the way you thought? Israel and the US pushed and pushed for democratic elections in the occupied territories, and in them Hamas won big. Now with their newfound political clout, they're reaching out to the EU, and using their stature as elected representatives to gain access to diplomats. wonder if this is a case of the devil you knew (the PA) being better than the demon you didn't (Hamas w/ political cloud and popular support)...

Interesting. The news out of that part of the world since Yassar died has been noticeably less frenetic. Maybe everyone is on a half time break but you'd hope not. I can remember when the PLO were Hamas. Maybe Hamas can too and they're thinking of settling down. Perhaps the Israelis are thinking of meeting them halfway and the light at the end is not a train. We hope.

I wouldnt worry about it, some militant will come along get piss drunk and go out and bomb a bus or something. WHats that called again? Oh yeah, Karma
Militants tend not to drink.. Something to do with the Koran.. Maybe that's why they're so uptight?

Apparently you've nevre seen a piss drunk militant. We captured 5 during a raid in July of 03. When I say piss drunk, I mean NO coherant words. They can talk all the smack they want to about following the Quran, but when it comes right down to it, human nature wins out (I think they call it sinning).

I have indeed never seen a piss drunk militant. I have however been drinking many many times with an Iraqi guy, (a buddy at university - he was one of those dudes who crossed thw mountains before Gulf War I) and he was also Larry Lightweight. 2 pints and he was slurring, 3 or 4 and he was pretty much gone.

No - He was just a regular Iraqi middle-class guy. Funny enough he ended up working for a oil company. I dunno where he is now. I haven't heard form him for a couple of years at least.
