Apparently nothing. The both claim to abhor homosexuality yet they both shelter men {scoutmasters and priests} that ass rape young boys

pieces of crap

Again and again, decade after decade, an array of authorities — police chiefs, prosecutors, pastors and local Boy Scout leaders among them — quietly shielded scoutmasters and others accused of molesting children, a newly opened trove of confidential papers shows.
At the time, those authorities justified their actions as necessary to protect the good name and good works of Scouting, a pillar of 20th century America. But as detailed in 14,500 pages of secret "perversion files" released Thursday by order of the Oregon Supreme Court, their maneuvers allowed sexual predators to go free while victims suffered in silence.
The files are a window on a much larger collection of documents the Boy Scouts of America began collecting soon after their founding in 1910. The files, kept at Boy Scout headquarters in Texas, consist of memos from local and national Scout executives, handwritten letters from victims and their parents and newspaper clippings about legal cases. The files contain details about proven molesters, but also unsubstantiated allegations.

****. May have been a bad time to buy that "Joe Paterno's Boy Scouts of America presented by the Catholic Church" franchise...

How the organizations responded to this identical and unfortunately classic. Protect the power of the organization over the rights and safety of the individual.

I will say this saddens me. I was a Scout from the mid 70’s to the mid 80’s and went as far as being one merit badge shy of getting my Eagle. I never encountered anything “odd” during my time in Scouting, thankfully. I can see how back then it would have been easy for someone who wanted to molest boys could do that. I’m the den leader for my sons Scout den, and the training I had to complete was truly stomach turning with the examples that were demonstrated. Scouts is far different today than it was in my day, sometimes ridiculously so.

Scouts was one of the better aspects of my childhood. It taught me a lot about myself and how I can function in the outdoors/wilderness. Done correctly and safely, I think Scouts is one of the best ways to mentor boys and young men, and a great way dads and sons can connect. Done wrong……….well there’s thousands of pages that unfortunately document how it can be done wrong over the years.

what's so shocking? if you provide enough adults with enough children, some are going to fall on hard times

The church and the BSA are organizations which place a premium on being honest and doing the right thing.

Covering up sex with boys is not the right thing to do.

If it were some random daycare center it wouldn't be such a big deal.

to be fair, there's more boy scouts / leaders that aren't homophobic than there are in catholocism. one of the guys in my troop eventually came out.
