I... umm... can't vote. Don't know why I even care.
Probably because our Presidential election process takes a year+. Doesn't your PM election only last a few months from start to finish?

Do you have to vote by law? I have a pommie friend who says it is against the law in Australia not to vote.

Yes, voting is compulsory in Australia if your name is on the electoral roll.

Yeah, we only have to listen to a couple of months of pompous git's bull****ting us..

and no, we don't have to vote by law and the UK turnout gets lower with each election as we all become disillusioned by the lack of realistic alternatives to self-serving dishonest tossers who are selected to stand for public office.

i like your style.

i have always thought that they should add a "two new candidates please" box to our voting options.its just a shame to have to settle for a lesser of two evils it just seems like nobody wins that way.

:stupid: I really wish politics could return to a battle of ideas... not cash flow. Then we would be discussing 90% of this crap b/c John McCain would be in office! :D

And related to the original question - I thikn he did very well and probably did sway some people, however the Republicans now have time to craft a response and re-write speeches before the RNC. I don't know if it was good enough to hold the swing voters... have to wait until W responds in August.

It's always interesting to note how many spoiled ballot papers there are. It has been sugested that there should be a none-of-the-above box also.

I will vote in the next UK election, not for Labour if Blair is still in charge and certainly not for the Conservative party. Leaves limited options though...

yea i thought his speech was mediocur (sp?) at best. He did have some really good one liners at the end, but i forgot them all when stupid CNN had the mic for the balloon guy turned on and he said, live on national television, "What the F*CK are you guys doing up there?!" I guess he was pissed b/c the balloons were supposed to all fall at the same time. O well, it's always fun when ppl swear on live teley.

I think we should all vote for Sharpton. why not??

I'm not even watching anymore... whats the point. I want bush out and only have one option. I would be happier if we had an Edwards/Kerry option instead of the current Kerry/Edwards combination. Either way I hope a giant peice of space garbage falls from the sky and lands on bush and his dog.

I caught the last half of the speech and got a kick out of how the "news" station I was watching it on kept zooming in on people in the audience that were clearly not "energized" or "captivated" by what Kerry was saying.

anyway, the speech itself was exactly what I expected of any candidate that gets that far -- promise everything that you think the people want, even if there's no chance in hades you can deliver any of it. Big talk from a guy who, by most accounts, hasn't done much of anything in some 20yrs of being a senator....

I think we should support whoever gets elected. I am sick of all this Bush bashing that has become so trendy. He has had the toughest term as pres. in a long time. All these Liberals are united on their hatred for Bush. Seems like a bad concept to bring people together. It is our duty to support our president, regardless of party.

the problem with this election is that many many people will not necessarily be voting FOR the person they want, but will be voting AGAINST the person they don't want.

I dont want bush so I guess i'll for this other doucshebag(sp?), or I dont like this doucshebag so I'll vote for a bush.

In the end, as long as our civil liberties are restored it will be a positive outcome

I was and am still split between Bush and Kerry, but now, just cuz you've annoyed us with your partisan stupidity, I'm going to vote Kerry.

Anyone see the article where Bush was at an anti abortion talk and said at least 8 times Feces instead of Fetus?
no, but if you find a link, post it. That'd be so funny!

I was set to vote for Kerry...BUT then I saw Ben Affleck sitting in the audience during the Convention. There is no way I can vote for the same candidate as the guy who made Gigli and Jersey Girl. I wonder if Nader is still in the race... :mumble: :D

Bennifer is rolling the tour busses with kerry for the next few weeks....I saw the convoy on the Mass Pike this morning headed outta town. K-dawg might have lost a couple of votes when people saw why they were stuck on a closed on-ramp for 20mins staring down a Statie on a motorcycle :help:

in general I make my decision like this: see who the most celebs are backing and then vote for the other guy.

I supported bush... I didnt vote for him, and I didnt respect the way that he got elected... but I tolerated him and supported him as the leader of the country. I even supported his decision to blow the crap out of Afganistan... I supported him after that too, but as soon as he started saying he wanted to go to war with Iraq I started thinking he had his own personal agenda, and then when he started spouting diharea from his mouth like naming all the countries in the "axis of evil" on world wide TV... Basically I started really hating bush around the time of that State of the union address.

Now I dont support him, I think he is a warmonger and I think he is bad for the country. I'm not going to support him JUST because he is the president, thats not what America is about.

I'd rather support a woman's right to choose, protection of our land from
greed-based drilling and logging, and freedom -from- religion.

If you just sit back and 'support whoever' happens to get elected,
that doesnt help anyone except the status quo.

:stupid:

I did not vote for Bush, I voted Libertarian. But if I only had two choices I would have voted for Bush. I was suprised on how well he handled things despite coming off as somewhat dim. I just chalked it up to him being a bad public speaker. I didn't totally agree with his tax cuts and environmental decisions but in genertal was not going to complain much, then Iraq came around and I realised he is a fundamentalist nut.

I will vote for Kerry to get him out. I don't trust Kerry 100% but figure congress will stay Repubican so he can't do too much damage.
