how screwed up is this... saw it on cnnsi this morning.

A South African soccer referee pulled a gun and shot dead a coach who questioned one of his rulings, police said on Sunday.

Inspector Mali Govender of the Grahamstown police in the Eastern Cape province said a fight broke out after the referee gave a yellow warning card to a player in a local match on Saturday.

"There was an altercation...and the referee became threatened when the other team approached him because they were angry," Govender said. "So he pulled out a gun and killed the coach of the visiting team."

Dude, I'd totally shoot someone if they questionned my call. No doubt about it.

If I'm the ref, my word is LAW.

You mean South Africa isn't happy fun land?

I bet the next time a yellow comes out, the players on the offending team won't all crowd around the ref and get in his face...

I bet if Knuck reff'd there would be more dead people.
I think if Knuck did anything that required significant contact with the general population, there'd be more dead people...

If only the NFL and NBA refs took a little initiative like this, maybe the crybaby players would not bitch and moan so much.
No kidding. Crybaby coaches, too, actually.

I think play reviews are B.S. That's what the refs are there for - to make the best call they can given what they can see. You take the good with the bad, because its part of the game.

Issue all the refs a sidearm and announce that all whining about play calls will be considered a threat and justifiable homicide will ensue :D
