Just heard this article from Iowa: https://www.wbur.org/hereandnow/2019/04/10/snow-iowa-mayor-flooding

The mayor was lamenting how they HAD to get a levee built to protect it when they rebuild (in the flood plain).

The mayor also lamented that the Federal government needed to step up:

"we need the government to do what we can't do. But if you could see these people, what they're doing to try to put this town back together, they're worth it"

Sure sounds like socialism to me.

Also saw this OBVIOUSLY socialist statement in a fairly important federal document:

"We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare"

I nearly got in an e-argument with someone who lives up in the foothills and was bitching about RTD/public transit and how he had to pay for it, 'cause he was in district. I was going to point out how the "rest of us" in the (relatively) densely-populated parts of Jefferson County were paying for the rural fucking roads he lives/drives on, but decided it wasn't worth the typing. :D

Fear should be more about making public the electric companies in CA. Private entities proved that they could not maintain their lines because it was driving profit.
Come visit MA to view our infrastructure and the lack of maintenance they've received.
The local government drives this state like it's a rental.

Things in CA that are run by the State, not local and paid for, are run really well (see CalPERS/STERS). If CalPERS took it over as an investment, it would still take a few years to stabilize, it wouldn't be my surprise if after a decade they could not only do that but also turn it profitable. They look at investments on decade scales, so putting time into turning it around and going profitable wouldn't be beyond them.
