OK, I've got two pairs of relatively new biking socks that are ripping already. How many wears do these things usually last? I've got a DeFeet pair and a Pearl Izumi pair that have both torn at the toe. For $9 a pair, you'd think they'd last a little longer than 10-15 rides. Maybe I just need to bite my toenails more often.

Dude, get the chainsaw out and hack those things down a bit! My local Performance Bike Shop had the factory seconds 50% off sale on all Defeet socks. I'm all stocked up now!

Hanes 12 pack for $15! The stream crossings will cool you down! Seriously though, I realy haven't found the $$ worth it to kick down for cycling socks, so long as my shoes are well vented...and wet!:D Just my $.02.

PS: they make excellent bike rags when they do go!

Ugg, I can't wear regular socks when I ride. They get all itchy and sopping wet.

for me, thats inevitable anyways! :D I had a couple of pairs years back, but for the minimal wicking, I couldn't justify the $$...much like the red assed one, I blow through socks and shoes...so Hanes it is!

I've got a few pair of those Sockguy socks both in wool and nylon and they have worked for more than a year and a half with no holes. If your local shops don't sale em go to Sockguy.com

I use hanes w/ the lightly reinforced toe/heel. You know the kind your grandmas made those monkey dolls out of socks. They work well, I never sweat 'em out (even in Aridzona) but I wear shoes with lots of ventilation.

Dude - bust out that dremel tool, put a sanding cylinder on it and grind those toenails down. While you're at it clip the neck hair.

Your significant other will thank you!

In good hygene,...... I remain

I checked out sockguy.com. Sorry, I can't see paying that much for freakin socks.

Have any of you tried the Wigwam brand of cycling socks? I found these and thought I might try a couple of pairs:

http://www.sockcompany.com/atcool.html

I do have a question for you guys though. Do any of you guys wear the low cut socks that barely come out of your cycling shoes? I don't know, I never tried them. They always remind me of the socklets that chicks wear with the little fuzzy pink and blue dingle balls in the back.

I was thinking of maybe getting a pair of those to try, but thought they might be a womans sock :D That, plus I thought some freaky guy might come up behind me and try to make me squeal like a pig.

My first post...and its about friggin socks. What a way to start.

Might just be your feet combined with cycling shoes. I learned at Brooks Running shoes that some peoples feet have toes that come up every stride. Some runners go through the toes of their shoes pretty quick. maybe you have those feet and in stiff shoes its worse?

If you ever get the chance, check out Smartwools. Bar none my favorite sock. I found a crazy deal on them at an L.L. Bean outlet for roughly 1/3 of retail. My quiver includes a mix of "cycling" "running extra cushion" and "trail running". Their taller socks for hiking are also great. If you have an outlet mall near you, you might check for one of the nothing but socks stores or a Bean outlet. They don't come in all the fancy colors that DeFeets do but I have several pairs that are going on 5 years old.

I have one pair of Smartwools. Easily the best pair of bike socks I have. I got them for free at the Mt Snow NORBA's last year. They had a booth set up, and you could exchange the socks on your feet for a brand new pair of Smartwools. I had a crappy pair of white tube socks on, so it was a sweet deal for me. :)

sounds like a swank deal to me. I have usually been able to find them for around $5-6 a pair. When I do, I stock up. I don't really own any cotton socks anymore, can't stand that clammy feeling.
