Not a bad idea, would this tax go to pay farmers to grow more corn?

Reality, you are not going to stop fatties with a little tax.

Not necessarily against it, but it won't accomplish what you want it too.
I just wanna see the fatties and mouth breathers riled up. I don't drink soda; I can count on one hand the number of cans/bottles I've had in the last six months so I won't really feel the effect. Tax the fvck out of it for all I care.

Another "stupid" tax that won't apply to me. I don't drink hfcs soda, smoke or drink alcohol very often. Go ahead and squeeze more money out of the rednecks, I don't care.

I do drink a fair amount of beer, but its a luxury item. I'm OK with it being taxed. Then again, lately most of the beer I've been drinking I brew myself, so taxes don't apply.

Yeah, I figured as much
Have you ever seen an angry fat person? its awesome! they shake and undulate like a lava lamp

Its more damaging than liquor when you add up the cost to our healthcare system so it certainly seems more valid than liquor taxes. Soda is in no way a food and should be taxed just like candy is in many places - its liquid candy - ten tablespoons of sugar in one can.

Its almost hypnotic...

My neighborhood is fast food central...so I see some rather large people quite often. Its pretty sad though to see someone who can barely fit behind the wheel of their Ford Excursion pulling into the drive thru at KFC...

Just cut subsidies that grow the corn and soy that make the simple sugars and cheap veg oil that makes this country fat. The price of ****ty food will go up, government cuts spending. If the farmers want more free money have Willie Nelson and John Cougar Mentstralcramp go begging for them again.

I don't care about health care cost implications or comparisons with tobacco or alcohol. I just want fat people taxed because I'm sick of looking at them.

Not John Cougar Concentration Camp? (yes, actual band name, much better than REO Speed Dealer).

I say Tax the sh1t out of it. I also agree with the idea of taxing fat people based on smell. The 650lb guy in my office stinks to high hell reguarly. He should be forced to pay restitution of some sort to the people that have to work with him.

This is a spectacular idea. Corn is one of the most heavily subsidized things on earth.

Farticle.

New York state has considered a penny-per-ounce tax on sodas, excluding diet sodas that don't contain sugar.
So,....The three that have actual sugar get taxed then?

HFCS is not sugar it is a sweetener, just as American cheese is not cheese it is cheese food.

I played a concert awhile back. I sat next to a guy that was probably 400. You know that episode of family guy where Peter gets all the fat guys in one room and the noise from them breathing is so loud...yeah, it was like that...

Or as Lovell Crawford would say, "Sometimes my friends ask me, 'Lovell! Why you breathin so hard?' What kinda stupid question is that??!!?? So I can live!!!"

Last meeting I had at work was full of fat guys. The predominant sound in the room was labored breathing. I guess it beats flatulence.

There is a guy I work with who starts breathing heavy on the way back from the kitchen after heating up his lunch. Mind you, its only 30-40 feet tops from his desk to the kitchen

Tax away! you want it, pay for it. Fatties pay, food stamps go a little less further for other crap food.

I do the same.

The scary ones take the elevator from the SECOND floor to the first floor so they can go on their smoke break. Because, you know, that one flight of stairs is just way too much...

I carry my bike up and down from the 3rd floor instead of taking the elevator - 2 reasons, one to make those who take the elevator for one floor feel stupid and two, it never fails, I get in the elevator and then two very large people have to squeeze in with me and my bike.

The big problem (pun intended) isn't the rich fat people, they have a choice. The problem is that it is much cheaper to live off of ****ty processed food because the subsidies make sugar and oil cheap. Now that I don't have a job I've been trying to save money and I can honestly say I could survive on $25 worth of food a week if I eat complete garbage. It is cheaper to head to the local quickie mart and buy a bucket of nachos with a half gallon of melted pseudocheese than it is to make a healthy well balanced meal.

This is the first time in the recorded history of man that is cheaper to eat poorly than it is to eat healthy.

I see that in my neighborhood. I live in a pretty low-income area, all you see is $hitty processed food everywhere. Trying to eat "healthy" gets expensive fast.

I live alone and I suck at cooking, so I've been eating pretty poorly lately. And I feel it.

That is a huge problem. Look at this map:

trader joe\'s - Google Maps

Notice that big huge spot where there are no Trader Joe's in the middle of LA? Wonder why that is?

Speaking of Trader Joe's, they closed the one that was right near me...so now its way out of the way to get to one. This one was great, I could ride to work, then stop there on the way home and do my grocery shopping. It was a lot healthier. They replaced it with a Peter Piper Pizza...:banghead:
