Sick of all the spiders, nuts, bolts, outer bashgaurd, inner chainguide ring, blah, blah, blah. I just want something to turn ma' damn chain!
So I've been looking at the BMX chainrings and such, with the built in bashgaurds and they're ultra beefy. Almost every one of them are set up for a 19mm(3/4") spindle so fitment there isn't an issue. It's just the chain fitting that is the problem.
Anyone seen any billet chainrings still using a rear cassette?

I believe BMX chains are 1/2" x 1/8" and Mtn bike chains are 1/2" x 3/32". Not much of a difference, but I bet it's enough to keep a cassette/derailleur from working with a bmx chain and a bmx chainring from working with a mtn bike chain. Just a guess.

BMX uses both.

Yeah, that's the Profile "Imperial," LeeOz just bought a gold set-up and he's being a big fat jerk by not donating it to my good cause! I'm gonna check the site right now, but it doesn't sound like those will handle a 9spd mtn bike chain.

I'm running a KINK 33T chainwheel coupled to a Chris King 17T SS cog using a 1/8th KMC gold chain. The 1/8 chain has a bit of side-to-side play on the King cog---as it is designed for use with an 8 or 9 spd chain, but I've been running it for nearly a year with no signs of excessive wear. I love it......just hop on, and go. Very low maintainence.

3/32 for 9 spd.

Yeah....it's fine on the front, but has a bit of side play on the CK cog---which was designed for mtb chain use. You don't notice it, and it doesn't wear into the cog because the chain is tensioned properly. Add to that, the gold color of the KMC chain is pimp as it gets.

Awesome...gotcha. Thanks for the learning moment! ;)

That Evilchainring above IS designed for a 9spd chain with the option of a simple BMX style bolt on grind plate, or to directly bolt on a traditional chainguide ring. And it's sweet...but I want it in gold....*bling* !
