Slacking at work
Since Kona was kind enough to bring me to Whistler to check out their new bikes, I guess the least I could do is post some pics of the stuff. Yes, I know I'm not a great photographer :D

Here's the Stab Supreme:

And the new Stinky Dee Lux - notice the 2 creatures in the background

Here's "The King" frameset

Most likely the next bike I will own, the HotRod

A closeup of the new Fox DHX4.0 shock:

The Coiler Primo - this is a sweet bike.

Here's the new Fox Float RLC...

The King Kikapu:

Kona's new chainguide setup for hardtails, which I understand will be available aftermarket:

The Unit

And finally, I can't remember what bikes had this, but I thought it was a cool bit of design/welding:

coiler primo is looking sweet, i wish i could afford one. i wasn't digging the KONA "stamped" logo when i first saw the 05's, but it looks a lot better there. i like the color of the 05 unit too.

Decent looking bikes i heard you were there when we were Echo. Met a few people in our group (Sarah and Kirstin) i think.

How are they going to sel that guide in the US? Wouldn't that fall under mrp's patents?

They look great. The photos aren't so bad either.

That bb section is reminiscent of Turner's
That is what I was thinking. Kona used to do this on some of their bikes back in 1998 like on the Kona Stab

I saw a couple of Kona testers on what looked like a production ready Stab Primo with a monoque front but I quess that will be 06 stuff. Still the same rear as they have used since 2000. Seems like to Kona guyes like their suspension design. I am sure their worst night mare would be DW as new man in charge.

Also look at the top of the chainstays on the 4 bar bikes. Also just like Turner. If you are going to emulate someone, Turner is a good choice.

Kevin
Top of the seatstays you mean?

Kona also recently started using 3D rockers a'la turner as well.

Many Stabs used the one-piece BB section.

dude the kona chain guide is mean, i want one, sorry evil
I don't understand why the chainguide is at all interesting? It's like every MRP chainguide, except the top roller is mounted on a pretty flimsy looking piece of metal clamped on the seattube.. One more thing to break, why not have it all on a one piece boomerang?

Sweet pictures, Echo.. Thanks! :thumb:

Except they aren't 4-bar.
The reasoning behind the BB piece is to save money. By making it have flat surfaces, you don't have to fishmouth the DT or the ST. I think it is quite a stretch comparing a Kona to a Turner. Just a little higher quality/attention to detail on the Turner. Just a little.

It is a 4-bar, just not an horst link 4-bar.

KL owns a turner or two and I'm certain that he's well aware of quality differences between them and Konas. He was merely pointing out that some evolving design features of the Konas pics here look a bit like Turner's bikes.

...which is really the ONLY way to do it! Nearly impossible to bend anything when compared to the budget-minded, 4-5" long bolts/reducers.

Carbon stays on The King... I wonder why they didn't eliminate the dropout pivot, and rely on the carbon flex instead? I have seen a few brands do that lately, seems to be the greatest new thing for lightweight XC duallies.

like the line but im just not a big kona fan.i got to sit on a coiler and they realy stiff for what there intended purpase is. but they have some sweet desings and they resemble the turners but not the quality :nope: .but maybee the new fox rear shock will solve some of those probs. well my 2 sents. :thumb: :monkey: :sneaky:
