Que the transgendered, trailer trash, denizens of the Springer Show...
Jerry to cover Kerry
CrainsCleveland | 14 Jul | HENRY GOMEZ
Its a match made in heaven. Or is it hell?
Trash talk show host Jerry Springer, who continues his flirtation with Ohio politics, will serve as a correspondent for envelope-pushing 19 Action News during this months Democratic National Convention.
Mr. Springer, also an Ohio delegate to the Boston convention, will provide commentary on WOIO- and WUAB-TV broadcasts. The former Cincinnati mayor considered challenging state Sen. Eric Fingerhut, D-Shaker Heights, earlier this year for the Democratic nomination to run against U.S. Sen. George Voinovich.
While Mr. Springers raucous reputation as a smut show talker made him a dud in polls that ultimately convinced him to stay out of the race, it made him political gold with Democratic fund-raisers. Action News, apparently, hopes he equates into ratings gold, too.
Jerry knows the Ohio Democratic Party as well as anyone in the state, WOIO and WUAB news director Steve Doerr said in a news release. His decades of experience in Ohio politics, as well as his unparalleled skills as a television news reporter and anchor, will bring an entirely new dimension of political coverage to our viewers.
So what can viewers expect? Teresa Heinz-Kerry and Elizabeth Edwards start mud wrestling? Jilted former lovers of John Kerry? Mr. Springer, eager to please, promised to cover the convention unconventionally.
Each night, Ill provide insight and analysis that you wont find anywhere else, Mr. Springer said in the release. And I promise you it wont be boring.
The daily reports will begin at 11 p.m. on Sunday, July 25, and will air on the stations 4 p.m., 10 p.m. and 11 p.m. newscasts.
