scary stuff
The weather/rain didn't put too much of a damper on the bbq, everyone had fun and of course there was way too much food, BUT.........well Most importantly, everyone is safe. I have a outdoor fireplace on the back wall of my attached garage, and we got a fire going in it. It was nice to hang and be warmed by the fire..but by 11:00 or so everyone went home. Instead of going to bed, I decided to stay outside by the fire, and thank god I did ..just before midnight I noticed smoke inside the garage, I didn't know what was wrong until I went in the garage and saw the inside wall behind the fireplace was bright red! Yes, it was on fire. I went in and woke up Dennis , I called 911 and got everyone out of the house...The wall was ripped apart and the fire put out .....but I really think the house would have been gone if I just went to bed, and for me the scariest thing was Dennis's kids were sleeping in the house. (Dennis is my nephew and is staying at my house until he can move into the house he is buying, his 1 & 3 year old daughters & wife who live in Boston were also staying this w/e)
Thanks to Dennis (who used to be a volunteer fireman), the EG police and the Clinton Heights Fire Department I still have a house.
The cause of the fire was due to spaces between several of the back bricks (due to settlement).
like I said scary stuff
