GT looks pretty promising - a basic high pivot FSR with an idler, no? 148mm spacing seems kind of stupid, but whatever, at least its not a new hub size altogether, and there are already options out there. Also glad to see they aren't pushing some new version of idrive that's equally as shitty.

Polygon looks...ehhh? What patents were they trying to get around with that setup, DW?

Edit: apparently bikeradar broke one on the first ride. And not just a preproduction model, just a straight up new one. Seems promising.

I want to diss that GT but it actually looks good. Although as Kidwoo pointed out, that's going to be a nightmare to clean.

As pointed out by someone in the comments at PB, the same unbranded hubs are used throughout the whole line. A $7500 top tier bike with cheap hubs and a $32 Shimano cassette.

Somewhat related: Am I the only one who thinks the new Gambler looked better as bare alloy vs that sort of dark red color it has now?

Is skat odd still with gt? My guess on the idrive is because it's not a very good design. Expensive, more difficult to get efficient kinematics. I have a fury and I like it, but it certainly could be improved.

I wish there were more energy here on dh instead of Enduro, as the new dh bikes areb amazing. The Norco is dope too

Geometry (minus seat angle), travel numbers, and weight are really starting to blur between DH and enduro.

Oh, and stupid long front ends, that’s enduro AF.

I'm stoked that the new GT and Kona can take 27.5 or 29" wheels and I can get EP pricing on both. I fully accept that my new 29" enduro is fast but I don't know how much DH racing I'll be doing so I think I want my next DH bike to be 27.5". But I don't want to regret that decision. Convertable frames are perfect for me.

You need to go to Pink bike or Vital MTB these days for DH content. You come here for bitching about everything under the sun that may or may not include biking. I think RM has aged out...and I'm old!

Not saying that, but at least there is DH content. I've been on RM since 2003 and the DH side of things has faded. Years ago, World Cup threads wound go on for 7-10 pages. There were tons of members that actually rode DH on a regular basis. I met and rode with a lot of past RM members. Post your bike threads (while can be kinda lame) were filled with DH bikes. Now its all Enduro and people basically saying that Enduro Killed DH.

I don't think it's dead.. and certainly not in the northeast. I've bought 4 bikes in the last 10 years and three of them have been DH bikes. It's a sport that I'm lucky enough to share a passion with my 14yr old son who now rips and I can no longer keep up with.

Sandwich is right...there's no energy left here when it comes to true DH. It's been a hell of a World Cup season with a changing of the guard and some phenomenal racing...you just wouldn't know it by the "energy" here on RM.

Yeah there is more energy on PB and Vital but from what I've seen on PB it's still gibberish and misinformed kids. I'd rather Gary and a few other RM hipsters shout at me for asking about geometry or using the word leverage than hear PB BSthat makes your head explode. I wish there was a place where people were informed and not feeling like grumpy old men run it but PB doesn't seem like an option, same for Vital.

my son is currently 3 and my daughter is 1, hence my current hiatus from DH riding. couple more years and he's probably gonna be downhilling with me.

I don't think enduro killed DH. I just think people grow up and end up changing and moving on. Shit, look at Metallica for example (first thing that came to mind). They started hard and turned old and lame...kinda like us! Lol. I'd rather dump money into my trail bike more than my DH bike only because life commitments get in the way of getting up early (hungover or not) and driving to the mountain, like I used to do with OG members like Zedro. If I lived at the base of Whistler, I'd be there everyday. But I live in Vancouver and couldn't be bothered to drive there on a weekly basis.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing, this and the commencal are just modern day BMW racelinks ;) Interesting that it took 29er wheels to make it a new thing...

This. Thanks to kids, going to my closest mountain on a regular basis just isn’t realistic anymore (6hr round trip). I’m still riding dh terrain locally, but long travel enduro/fr rigs rigs make more sense for my reality now.

if i was trying to get the most out of my riding time i'd get a dirtbike from craigslist and still have saved money vs buying an e-bike.
