A bill that would make it clear that ski resorts are not just for winter activities has passed the U.S. Senate and is on the way to President Barack Obama for his signature.

Current federal laws only allow ski-related activities on U.S. Forest Service land leased to resorts.

The Ski Area Recreation Opportunity Enhancement Act would allow special exemptions for downhill mountain biking trails, zip lines and disc golf courses.

The bill's sponsor, Colorado Sen. Mark Udall, says the bill will make it easier for mountain resorts to attract tourists during the summer months and create jobs.
Cross your fingers.

I didn't know they were limited now, but I would like to see something like this go through. I would love it if more of Mt Hood was lift ridden.

They have to do a ton of environmental impact studies to build bike trails EVEN ON EXISTING SKI RUNS.

How the fvck does that make sense? What has more environmental impact than the 20-30ft wide clear cuts down the entire length of the mountain they create to make the ski runs?

Not only do you have to go through the whole NEPA process but you also have to deal with the envrotards challenging it in court. It took Stevens Pass seven years to wade through all that.

Edit: Here is a link to an example of this concerning Timberline in Oregon. Don't read it unless you want to punch someone in the throat.
