he keeps walkin around the house shaking his head like somethings in his ear...i looked in both his ears but i didn't see anything, he does have fleas right now so maybe one jumped inside his ear, but he's not scratching at it at all, also when i tried to look in his left ear he seemed heasitent(sp)...i scractched his left ear for a couple min and he looked like he was in heaven, now he's laying down and hasn't shook for a couple of min...maybe that was all he needed...but just incase it wasn't, anyone got any ideas as to what could be up

Could be a number of things with his ears... Ear infection, quite possibly. If he's a mutt, his ears might not be structured right - my vet told me it happens a lot with mutts. That can result in build up of crap in his ear (especially if one of the breeds in the mix was supposed to have his ears standing straight up, and your dogs ears flop) that gets itchy over time and can cause infections.

Could be something else itchy too, of course... but definitely take him to a vet. Ear infections or any other ear condition can get expensive quickly if not treated right away. My dog scratched at one ear a little too much, damaged the skin and we had to have minor surgery to drain it. Could have been avoided if we noticed sooner and just treated the ear problem.

ear infection.
maybe its something silly, like water in his ear. anyways, worth checking with a vet because even water in the ears can lead to an infection

ear infection.

go to vet. allergies are worst for my dog this time of year and he's just getting over one. I used equal parts vinger and water and put a couple drops in his ears and cleaned them out real well and it was gone in two days. Not saying you should do that tho.

sounds like an ear infection. My dog did that for a while and I didn't really notice, then her ear started smelling funny and one day she shook it and liquid came out. Took her in and the vet said it was doggy swimmers ear. a week of drops later and she was all healed.

I expected a "Kick it" comment out of you. I'm so disappointed. :disgust1:

Anytime your dog starts acting strangley, take it to the vet.

Dude - you're in Arkansas. Leave it. If it gets worse, take your shovel and the dog out behind the shed... :brow:
Dude, it's one thing to joke, but don't be a dick. If you posted that your son was sick, would you like me to make jokes about just killing him?

The guy is worried about his pet.

Joke. It's a joke.

And if my son was sick I sure as heck wouldn't post on Ridemonkey to see if anyone had any ideas. :disgust:

And if you made jokes about knocking him off I'd probably roll with it. DHG used to do it. :bonk:

Joke. It's a joke.
A joke implies that it was funny to someone. Besides you, I mean.

And if you made jokes about knocking him off I'd probably roll with it. DHG used to do it.
Just because you don't fly off the handle about it doesn't make it funny or appropriate. This is real simple: "I'm worried about my dog, he might be sick." doesn't warrant a response of "Just kill it."

There are normal social boundaries that should be observed to keep forums civil. Try to observe them. And try to be respectful of the fact that a large portion of the population don't treat their pets like an expendable commodity

ear mites
That was my first thought as well. Take a warm wash cloth and wipe out his ears. Be gentle, go slow, and get as far in his ears as possible. Do it morning and evening for a couple of days and see if he responds.

A call to the vet might also give you some ideas.

Your kids should just feel lucky that you didn't wrap them in bacon and roast them when they were at the tender age of 3 months.

Glad you're taking the pup in. Better to be safe than sorry, as the head shaking think can be a symptom of really simpe things or really serious things. Let us know what you find out.

ah relax. While I do agree, it's just his internet tough-guy persona. He'll be changing the bows in his poodle's hair this weekend.

consider calling the vet first - they may have some very simple suggestions to try before bringing him in.

I'm not worked up about it. Comments like that are just lame, so I said so. If it had been funny or creative (see VB's comment) I wouldn't have even said anything.

i called the vet instead of going up there....since my dog hasn't shook at all this morning...he said that chances are something crawled inside his ear ie:tick or spider and that since he's still not shaking he more than likely got it out, but i can still bring him in just to double check...if he does start shaking again then i'll bring him in, but right now money's kinda tight for me...since i did just splurge on a $70 dh jersey for some mountain bike forum....

and no he hasn't been swiming in a couple of weeks and a stereo wasn't playing when it happend, who ever asked that...i already forgot

I am here to out you:
When SkaredShtles was just a boy, a neighborhood dog he had befriended gave him ear mites.
The next morning at school all the children were laughing at him and saying he had dog lice. They gave him a wedgie and pulled up his shorts really high, and threw bacon at him as if were a dog treat.
As SS sat there with his thighs glowing eating the bacon he one day dreamed of getting even with all dogs by making bad tasteless jokes about them on the intarweb.
Revenge is sweet!

Can I just ask one simple question:

Why would you hesitate to take your dog to the Vet, and instead ask a bunch of people on Ridemonkey?

Ridemonkey isn't a bunch of veterinarians. And I'm willing to bet that you don't even know personally most of the people who post here, so for all you know, they could be talking out of their asses when they give their opinions.

Take your dog to the Vet. If you own a dog, you ought to love and respect the dog enough to treat it properly, which includes proper health care at the veterinarian.

Sheesh.

Personally I won't make a move about anything until I get it cleared here.

It took several threads including a poll and 1 ad in the Buy and Sell forum before I got the green light to take my child to the doctor. I think she's going to be ok, but I still need to start a thread to see if it's ok to go pick her up. (this was 7 weeks ago...)
