Don't get me wrong.......I love my burly hardtail. I ride it for everything.

......But, sometimes it hurts.

Hit the stepdown at my DJ's today a bit on the nose-heavy side. Overshot the transition completely and landed on the flat. Ouch!!!!!

Like I said.......I love my hardtail, but sometimes it hurts. Now I am limping around on a gimpy ankle. I am sad. :nopity:

Anyone else fall down today?

Just sold my Transition Dirtbag in favor of an Evil Imperial. It's amazing how sloppy you can get with your landings on a boingy bike, and even more amazing how quickly you re-learn how to land after ONE jump on a stiffee! Ouch!

I got rid of my bullit about a year ago and went to a morphine with monster t. Did the same kind of riding, except probably bigger hucks and gaps. The only drawback was ankle pain. maybe I need to do yoga or something...

13' to near-flat landing. Hardtail. You're a pussy.

.....And you, sir, have LOST YOUR MIND!!!!!! :D

Yes, I am a HUGE pussy. The HUGEST, my man. If I did 13' -to-flat, my colon would fall out and get caught in my spokes!!

OK, so I sound pretty tuff saying that NOW, don't I?? It wasn't SUPPOSED to be to flat...I overshot the landing by about 5 feet. Which, in itself, is pretty damn cool as that makes it about a 15 or so foot gap! We decided the best way to do it on a HT was to go REALLY, REALLY FAST. Oops...too fast. Rode it out the first time, broke the steer tube on the second. Hence my Sig.... ;)
But it sounds much cooler when it is said like this: 13' to flat. Hardtail. And technically, it was about 15', but who really freakin cares, right? It stung.

hmmm..I don't do hucks to flat but trying to go fast on my HT can be painful at some times....I just burnt the hell out of myself after the rear rotor was slapped into my calf on a steep rocky decline...but I sitll love my 2MX...check the sig;)....D

where the trails are
but building a hardtail is the BEST thing I've done in terms of improving my skills. I built my Chameleon because I wanted a lighter, simpler bike to trail ride, and I really wanted to learn some 'street' skills as well.

excuse the "non-action, leaning against something" shot

I do get my ass kicked every once in a while. Landing drops was difficult at first but now I've gotten better at matching the transition. Besides, I still have some suspension ... I call it "cartilage" and I keep it in my knees! :thumb:

I think the whole thing about going huge with a hardtail is not whether or not it can be done - but rather how long the rider want to be able to do it.

And not to derail the thread - but if anyone is interested in trading their HT frame (somewhere in the 17' range) for my med, Planet X pitbull frame - PM me - the PX is very compact, I want something that I'll ride trails AND park with. The frame is in great condition - and yes, it does have those damned rasta graphics.

Hm. This post is different from the other post you made, but there's no edit message..

Given the almost unlimited places you can ride in the world, and the thousands of possible bikes you can choose from, and the various components and equipment you can use, along with the variables of mood, physical shape, weather, clothes, etc.. I'd say billions might be conservative.

Wow your right. I thought it was just riding...you know two wheels, balance, pedal go. But your right, the differences are endless. So much different pavement, different roots and rocks, drops and jumps. I get excited just thinking about it.

my skills improved greatly when i went back to a HT and i've done everything on it that i ever did on my big bike....it's just a lot easier on the big bike. i want to keep my HT for DJ's, DS and some stunts but i will probably not race DH on the HT again....that was just painful! it's amazing how much confidence having some inches in the back can give.
