So my news page has the following 2 stories:

• 2 Suicide Bombers Kill 93 in Iraq
• Bush: U.S., Iraqi Forces Making Progress

The first line in the second story, it says:

President Bush, in a guarded assessment of the war in Iraq, said Tuesday "there are some encouraging signs" in a security crackdown in Baghdad by U.S. and Iraqi forces.

Am I the only one that has noticed zero change? At least from a headline standpoint the number of violent attacks on civilian and police forces hasn't changed all that much.

The evil liberal media is just yanking your puppet strings.
Thats right, Iraq is stable and the media is doing the bombings to create news...people love to hear about blood and guts

funny, reporters in the green zone bemoan the doom & gloom; embedds (& war-bloggers) tell a different story. i would dare say a more informed story.

y'know like how libby has been convicted of four counts, but it's not as bad as it could have been (5). isn't like he sullied the good name of the white house. sheesh.

silver lining. go pet some puppies.

A story where 40-50 Iraqis per day aren't killed in sectarian violence?

The military controls who becomes an embedded journalist and has ultimate control over what is output. They are more likely to have this guy reporting than someone seeking the truth. Of course you then have the green zone folks living separate from the truth.

This is the story that JimmyDean is referring to:

http://www.iht.com/articles/2007/03/06/news/iraq.php

"We hold the police responsible," said Khudair Abbas, a survivor who said the explosions were a few minutes apart. "We were searching the pilgrims to look for terrorists and a police force came and prevented us from searching, saying that it is their job to do. A few minutes after the police left, the explosion happened."

Blood and pieces of human flesh covered the ground and the walls of the shops and textile factory that surrounded the blast site, a wide avenue divided by a concrete barrier.
Progress indeed.

by reporting "human flesh" (is there any other kind?), they are just being sensationalists.
