quick shout to scottish faves Teenage Fanclub (also naughtily known as the 'fannies' in their native land), who took the best parts of american power pop (big star, most obviously) and ran down the rest of the pitch before potting a goal. this is from their 1st record, which was also one of the earliest records on Gerard Cosloy's then-fledgling lable matador. this reminds me of the year just after college, living on my own in boston, and getting on w/ life. a good time.

it's got a great guitar sound. they definitely got slicker and poppier as they went on, but still wrote great songs. one of those bands i've never seen live, but no good reason why.

steve, you ever heard Velvet Crush's cover? not bad. i can send it to you if you want.

I might have.

They were pretty damn good live.

The last time i saw Teenage Fanclub was w/mudhoney in Nashville at 328 Performance Hall around 94ish. I wonder if that place is still around?
