wow, October already...

today's song of the day is a shout-out to Loco, as it's a band which features an ex-classmate of his. Britt Daniel started Spoon back in the 90s and while _Telephono_ was a good record, it was a bit derivative of the Pixies...a minor sideways turn to a major label didn't pan out, but _A Series of Sneaks_ was a very strong record, and eventually got reissued when they landed at Merge. the sound of the band doesn't deviate from guitar-based rock, but the keyboards add some texture and the lyrics are pretty good...check out 'fitted shirt' sometime, where Britt talks about his dad's old dress shirts and laments the state of current fashion.

spoon's a good band, but the last one didn't grab me...i think i'll play it now and see if my opinion's changed.

I thought the first offerings were best. I like Plastic Mylar best.

I've been listening to the new one lately. It kinda takes awhile before it really grabs you.
