behind the viewfinder
wasn't sure what to play for today, but after putting up a few dozen american bands, i decided it was time for some brits to get in on the act. most people know Johnny Rotten for the Sex Pistols, but his 2nd band Public Image had some pretty great moments...the dub-influenced bass of jah wobble and crafty guitar work of keith levene (original clash guitarist, also roadied for Yes [in an interview he admitted that he'd cribbed the guitar line of "Poptones" from "Starship Trooper"]) combined for a heady post-punk brew.

this song encapsulates everything you need to know about PiL...the driving bassline kicks if off, and the maniacal cackle from Rotten before the vocals start says it all.

I always liked these guys. The Sex Pistols always seemed to be trying too hard, but PIL was on the money.
