Versus was a muscular guitar band/trio out of DC then NYC, and i mean muscular in the sense of the sound coming from Richard Baluyut's amp, not in any physical stature sense. bassist Fontaine looks like she'd be toppled by a half-hearted gust of wind. but volume and economy of notes, coupled w/ the forceful vocal delivery and approach of Richard made for a blend which made Versus stand out from the crowded ghetto that was indie rock in the 90s. the story i heard is that they took their name from the Mission of Burma lp, so that gives a nod to where they are coming from. or were. they broke up a few years ago, and all members are currently doing other musical projects.

the track is from their best record, _Secret Swingers_; i love the drum pattern in this song. very underrated drummer (richard's brother).
