the Cows were a bunch of unruly misfits from minnesota w/ nothing better to do than to raise an unholy ruckus and draw all over themselves w/ sharpies. truly one of the more entertaining live bands i've ever seen, lead 'singer' Shannon Selberg came bounding out on the stage of The Rat shirtless, wearing two victor mousetraps as earrings, a straw cowboy hat, and a drawing of a chicken head snaking from his pants waistline. oh, he had pom-poms too. as a studio band they left a bit to be desired, but still had their moments...the best of which i believe was their debut single "Chow", a great blast of energy and detuned bass from tiny label Treehouse. they'd later go on to record for vaunted grunge/hardcore/pigfvck label Amphetamine Reptile, also home to vaunted contemporaries like Vertigo, Halo of Flies, Tar, King Snake Roost, Cosmic Psychos and others.
