back in the early 80's there was a phenomemon, mainly around LA, which had the unfortunate term of 'paisley underground'. i guess this meant that the bands so branded had some sort of psychedelic bent to them, but if one musical genre term's been abused and mis-applied more than 'psychedelic', i'm all ears.

in reality, what these bands were trying to break free from was the new wave schmaltz or hair metal, and they didn't play hardcore. it really was just a retreat back to the roots, if you take the Velvet Underground as being a source.

so steve wynn, karl precoda, kendra smith and dennis duck started their own little movement in the early 80s, and heres an opening salvo stating their direction and purpose:

I actually liked it better the second time (and I liked it the first time), after I had settled into their groove a bit. Very nice.
