tarried a bit longer in the grunge era than i'd planned, but i really needed a proper shout-out to the blinding greatness of the Singles of the Month club. built in hype (subscription only, limited edition, colored wax, revolving set of bands, etc) was just part of the allure; the songs for the most part were really good. i was a late joiner; it started w/ the most collectible record Nirvana ever put out (the 1000 copy single pressing of "Love Buzz", in '88; copies routinely fetch over a grand on ebay), and i wasn't onboard until Jan '90, w/ the Reverend Horton Heat single. but i soon got wise and spent some time and $ tracking them down, like rare butterflies. i've still got a ways to go, but have a good chunk of them.

anyway, this is a random smattering of some of the highlights contained in the version #1 club (sub pop did another subscription series starting in '98 or so. the 1st one ended in '93 w/ a solo Lou Barlow release).

Rapeman - Song Number One

Fugazi - Song #1

Big Chief - Chrome Helmet

Lubricated Goat - Meating My Head

All good picks today! The coffee was boilng in the cup sitting next to the speaker. Sub Pop has such a great artist catalog, might have to see if I can dig that old SP t-shirt out of the closet...

Well, unless you don't consider video as "other lables".
Did I ever send you the Burn to Shine stuff?
If not, lemme know via PM- you would dig both the audio & video content.

well if you are referring to _Instrument_ (which i haven't seen), i guess you could argue that it's mainly the work of the director (assuming Ian didn't direct it)

nah, never heard Burn to Shine. incoming PM!
