a lot of people (some of these being actual musicians) like neil young enough to actively crib some of his best bits and try to incorporate them into their work.

of the best of these, Jason Molina must stand among the highest of the acolytes. if only because he had the good fortune to plunder the heart of Neil's best years, the stuff around _Time Fades Away_, _Zuma_ but esp _Tonight's The Night_. and his crackly tenor singing voice is reminiscent of Shakey's, just for bonus points.

today's song is from my favorite Songs:Ohia cd The Lioness, but it's a live recording from an italian show which was released as Mi Sei Apparso Come Un Fantasma , one of the best sounding live records i've ever heard, and was really elusive to get (finally tracked down a legit copy in Stockholm of all places). the brooding power of this song is incredible; i find it this way, anyway.

Funny.

It is always music like this that I would prefer to take a long ride/drive listening to.

I've heard this before; was it on the dh girlie CDs?

Anyhow, now, as before, I really want to like this song. I love the clear, simple guitar line and the mood of the song. I'm put off by the guy's voice, though - where I would like to hear a clear, strong voice, I get a whiny crooning.

yeah, it might have been on the DHG set...i lost that tracklist so i may be repeating myself, which i'd rather not do. i think i put "i've been riding w/ the ghost" on the SS disks, so i was gonna avoid that one. i was pressed for time this morning, so maybe i panicked. ;)

i'll get a bunch of songs up tonight via YSI.

btw, a lot of people hate Neil's voice too.

? I can't even start to relate Molina to Neil Young.

Still thinking about the cut.

Think "Tired Eyes"

Well tell me more,
tell me more,
tell me more
I mean was he a heavy doper
or was he just a loser?

to me, the NY fumes coming off this song are overpowering.

think of the live version of "Cortez the Killer". esp the guitar playing.
