i think that Black Rebel Motorcycle Club is an off-shoot from the Brian Jonestown Massacre, and i can certainly see why someone would want to leave the psychotic anton and simplify their life. the druggy 60s strains of BJM are intact, but also gauzed over; the guitar effects are very present but not heavy-handed, imo. if you prefer a stripped-down approach, their last record Howl sounds like the one for you. me, i prefer the 1st two, and they are eeriely sounding similar to NZ's Straitjacket Fits at times, never a bad thing.
