I wanted to post up what has become of this situation. Members of my family have been attempting to obtain information relating to my uncle's arrest (what agency issued the arrest, what exactly was said, why it was considered terroristic), but it has been a challenge.

The authorities are claiming that the details of what my uncle said on the forum cannot be released, nor who requested the arrest. That information is what they are claiming to be considered “confidential” in some sort of way, because it is, according to them, related to “terrorism”. Unfortunately, there is no FOIA to assist in this one… I guess it’s just a sign of the times.

My family has currently opted not to involve the media, in fear of a three ring media circus. I personally feel as though we should, but it is not my place to do so, and I must respect the wishes of my family members who were closer to him then I was. I live on the west coast and this happened on the east coast, therefore I would not be dealing with the daily stress and burden that they would be subjected to.

My uncle may have been angry with the government, may have said some overly aggressive things, but a terrorist he was not.

My motive for posting our story of this horrible situation was not to try convince people like DRB that these types of assaults on our civil liberties are happening, but it was more as a word to the wise.

If you do not already understand how the patriot act has compromised are civil rights through the use of internet monitoring (NSA), telephone monitoring (NSA), and the abuse of search and seizure laws (all law enforcement agencies)… my advice would be to start finding out.

Dude, I dont know you or your uncle, and it really sucks for your loss. However, I gotta say Im having trouble with your story. People have said tons of things about Bush, hell, even on this forum. If it is indeed true, your uncle must've definitely said something to perk the ears of the govt.

Yes, it is horrible thing that has happened… I don’t think “sucks” can fully describe it.

We have no idea what forum it was. When my Grandfather picked him up, he did not badger him with questions about exactly what was said or where he said it. He was planning on talking with him the following day, and that is when he was found.

When removing personal items from his house, his brother (my other uncle), discovered that his computer was missing. The authorities told him that it had been confiscated and was not to be returned.

If it is indeed true, your uncle must've definitely said something to perk the ears of the govt.
Burlyshirley, I personally have no doubt that what he said was probably pretty harsh, but it was, only words. And the actual severity of the offense can clearly be determined by the fact that his bail was only $2500.

The man was 60 years old and very unhealthy and I think that any logical person could have evaluated the circumstances before hand and realized that this man was absolutely no threat what so ever.

I have a question for anyone who might know; Since I know his name and personal information, is it possible for me to somehow track his forum activity by using his email address??

Not knowing what he said is burning me up...

maybe the email adress could help.

i dont think the full real name is necesary. if we can get the forum screename, we can e-stalk him and look up what he said. (i assume he must have posted on a high transit, politically related forum).

My condolences :(

This is a truly saddening story and a testament that our country has not progessed over the years. This is EXACTLY like the red scare we went through many years ago and it's disgusting to me that people in this country have lost their right to free speech and the right to protest. Our founding fathers did not envision this state of affairs when they set out to create our "democracy". I am both angered and saddened by this story. It seems that we now are dealing with terrorism against our own citizens. I still can't believe that a slight majority of this country voted him back in office. Then again I talk to people all over the country everyday, and the general public here in the U.S. is not very bright on average. Maybe one day we will get to have a NON-corrupt presidency we can all be truly proud of as Americans. I love our country too much and this really breaks my heart.

My condolences. The sad thing is that I don't have a hard time believing this, it's happened before in our country and seems to be just the type of thing the current administration gets off on.

I understand that your family wants it's privacy during what is no doubt the hardest thing imaginable to deal with, but part of me thinks a media circus might do some good. Show the brain-dead sheep what they have created.

Stay strong, my friend
