NORCAL is the hizzle
Full disclosure: These guys are my friends so my apologies if this is spammy, feel free to delete.

Anyway, just wanted to get a little exposure for the new Chub line of hubs and wheels for fixed and single speed road and mountain.

Check it out here: http://bythehive.com/

I've been riding a chub fixed gear hub for about 6 years without any problems. There is real engineering and advantages behind the design but to me it's not about a performance advantage, just a cool approach and top notch quality.

The shorter spokes are actually sort of a happy side benefit to the main engineering purpose. Traditional smaller-shell hubs actually twist between the flanges, leaving the drive-side spokes doing most of the work. A stiffer shell gets the non-drive side on the program. The best way to get a stiffer shell without adding lots of weight is to make it massive but thin, and making it that size has the added benefit of shorter spokes/less wind-up. That and it looks cool and you can make all kinds of jokes about your stiff chub.
