Anyone ever use these? Spank seems to want a very accurate build, which I generally have no issue with. But Spank sucks to get perfect compared to DT. Again, I've done it. But they're a lot more time consuming. I'm not sure I want to give them the extra time if they're always in need of attention.

First, what exactly is Radial compliant? Secondly is that they actually recommend specific spokes and tension. I'm fine with that, but what about those of us who actually ride? Spokes aren't always under perfect tension on the trail. I'm probably going to a DT rim or different Spank rim just cause of the complications.

Radially Compliant is probably just marketing mumbo jumbo that is really just a shallow 19mm profile height. Spoke tension specs are for when you build the rim, not while riding, kind of hard to measure on a rotating wheel anyway. Spoke tension will also change with a tire mounted and will vary with tire pressure.

I swapped to one on the back of my DH rig and straight away its rode more muted than a ex511 i was running.
i was riding rough DH tracks with Rocks, slabs.
I build my wheels, and i threw on the same real worn spesh Hillbilly, so it was a direct comparison.
It held up to 2 full lift days in OZ on tracks which are hard on rims.
My go to rims now, i just bought a couple more spare.
I did use Dt prolock nipples without their washers, as theyre builtin on the spank. But i did shear one nipple riding. Cable tied that spoke to another and kept going. Fixed that and out a fresh Hillbilly on and have done another 1/2 Shuttle day on my own trail which is 6 min descent and rocky. Again it felt more muted on chattery stuff.

Has anyone seen anything about RF claiming that foam filled handlebars were showed no increase in damping over regular alloy bars?

Also, for people that use nipple washers do you coat them with anything to stop corrosion from happening?
I used stainless washers(dry) on my Crank Brothers rim and was pretty surprised to see some corrosion after only a couple of months' use.
Years back I swapped from Spank to Stan's Flow EX because the Spanks were too stiff for a hardtail.

Ain't nothing you can coat with to stop galvanic corrosion.

I only had copper based anti seize which isn't great for aluminum so I just used some lanolin but that will wash out.
Was thinking maybe some electrical jointing paste.......?

So you want to make a better electrical connection?

unless you are using alu rims without eyelets, or certain carbon rims which specifically require them, nipple washers aren't needed. if you do need them - they need to be brass.

I remember I went asking at a bike shop and they had steel...lol, I was like "WTF?" I went to a local industrial supply store and found some perfect sized brass ones.

To be honest, I didn't even think about it at the time, I just ordered Sapim nipples and washers.
Figured they know what they are doing, but yeah brass would have been a better option.

i don't even fuck around with alloy nipples. brass or nothing.
Had just woken up, good englishes again, haha.

I meant to say that I bought brass nipples but the Sapim washers that most suit the shape of my CB rims were stainless and no thought was used at my end about the material.

I really wish Ti nipples would get to be more mainstream, lighter than brass, less likely to round out and you can anodize them all the pretty colors.
One of the reasons nipples come in brass is that is relatively easy to make little precision parts out of it. Ti is the opposite of that.

sure, but they’re just Swiss parts and that’s the easiest type of machine to make cheap Ti on.

¡Mira, una ardilla!

What could go wrong. I for one want to spend $320 for sketchy Temu nippulz on a bike.
Back in 2010? there was an avalanche of cheap ti-made products on eBay. Seemed like some scavengers got a hold of some dismantled Russin ICBMs or something like that, and spokes/nipples/screws could be purchased by a dime.

I used to gift 72-nipple bags to my fellow riders for their birthdays at the time. We even helped a friend who raced for the BMX Olympic team to build a front wheel with a hub, spokes and nipples, all titanium, and I recall I paid less than the value of a Crupi hub for all the components, shipping included.

I wish I had kept at least a bag of those.

honestly i thought it was dumb, then realized we could have them US made and charge like $30 a piece to high end roadies.
You could literally save about 24 grams. Clearly worth thousands of dollars. Then sell them little aero covers to go over the nippulz.

we could probably charge extra if we put them in a wind tunnel so they are aero. naturally they will then require a proprietary tool for installation.
