They had a pair at fat tire farm in Portland. I tried them on but I thought they were too flexy. I like my shoes to be road shoe stiff. These would be good if you do a lot of hike-a-bike

I have a pair from last year, not sure if they're the same, I got them for longer rides for use with clipless pedals. They're great but the only thing that I don't like is that the upper flap where it goes over your foot is a stretchy material and thus even though it's a high top I don't feel it gives enough ankle support. Protection from impacts to the ankle is ok but I like more support. If you normally ride low tops you'll love 'em.

And they don't come in rootbeer so you can't freeride them right? Heh, funny thing, mark this down as an instance where that comment is appropriate.

Seriously the sole is definitely more flexy than an average mtb hard sole shoe for clipless (like a sidi dominator) but it's stiffer than an average non-spd compatible dh shoe. Somewhere in the middle, which I guess is what these are made for. I ride them with shimano clipless/platform pedals (forget the product number) and they flex enough that I can actually feel the little platform. They're great for hike-a-bike and post-ride posing - the rubber outsole is pretty soft and holds onto rocks and barstools better than Sidi's.

Haven't tried them with flats and am not sure why you would get them for flats, I mean for the money you could almost get two pairs of the new 5.10's.

Oh and yes they have decent toe protection.

I really like mine. Yes they are a little flexy compared to some of the stiffer XC shoes but I like how comfortable they feel. They are very cool during the summer months due to good ventilation. Drawback here is they vent too good during cold wet weather and your toes will freeeezzzzz when it is frosty out. As for protection, the ankle plates are very nice but a good wack on a rock can hurt in in the toe area, modest protection compared to my old AXO's around the toes. Overall I like them in the warmer weather, like the amount of movement they allow, hike a bike is good and above average impact protection made these a good purchase for me. 149 ouch, Sprung where are you shopping......shop around they can be had for cheaper and are still a very quality product if fit your requirements. :thumb: :thumb:

LOL that name is great, Sawpit. Hmmm, I guess Specialized is going to name everything after local trails. Kinda wierd. I still don't see the need for a Demo9 in the Demo forest, a short travel bike/hardtail is definitely the fastest, most efficient, most fun vehicle out there. And there are three rock gardens total, and they're all pretty small. Thus I don't understand why such a "Dogbone" or "Karpiel" shoe is named after a fun and smooth trail. Jeez, why do I think about such trivial issues?
