A new World Champion crowned at XTerra World Championships.

Javier Gomez ( Spain - Specialized - S-Works Epic 29'er ) competing in his first ever XTerra World Championship event led from the front and secured his 1st off-road World Championship Title.

Having flown in from Auckland where he won the ITU World Championship Grand Final in emphatic fashion last weekend, Javier made his impression felt and stamped his authority on the race from the start. Exiting the water with a sizeable 1min 20 sec second lead on all the contenders, Javier rode the race of his life to complete the bike course a mere 30 seconds adrift of 4 x World XTerra Champion, Specialized's Conrad Stoltz ( South Africa - S-Works Epic 29'er ) .

Stoltz's lead was short lived as Javier drove hard in the early stages of the run, his favourite discipline and never surrendered the lead again crossing the line 1min ahead of America's fast finishing Josiah Maddaugh.

Conrad Stoltz finished a credible 3rd overall with Specialized's Leonardo Chacon Corrales ( Costa Rica ) finishing in 4th place.

In the women's race Specialized's Barbara Riveros ( Chile - S-Works Fate 29'er ) displayed a gutsy performance in her debut off-road World Championships. Barbara exited the swim in 2nd place and maintained that position throughout the event. Scotland's defending champion Lesley Patterson displayed superior all-round skill to finish 3 minutes ahead and claim yet another World Title!

Mari Rabie ( South Africa - S-Works Epic 29'er ) finished 3rd.

Overall Specialized displayed an incredibly strong presence amongst the Pro's as well as Age-Group competitors.
