Spectator hits Tour de France rider in the face

PAU, France (AP) -- A spectator hit Tour de France rider Andrey Kashechkin in the face during Tuesday's 16th stage, the second crowd-related problem in the last three days.
The roadside spectator was cheering on the riders as they raced up a climb and hit the Kazakh rider, apparently accidentally, as he cycled past.
``He got a fist in the face,'' said Roger Legeay, manager of Kashechkin's Credit Agricole team.
Kashechkin pulled up and then headed a short way back down the climb to see a race doctor following behind in a car. The doctor treated him for what appeared to be a nose bleed. After that, Kashechkin continued riding, occasionally wiping his nose with his hand.
``He was bleeding from the nose,'' Legeay said.
During the 15th stage Sunday, a spectator running alongside riders up another climb went under the wheels of a motorcycle carrying a TV cameraman who was filming the race.
Monday was a rest day.
