There is no "right" length. Your bottom bracket shell has a dimension of 68mm or 73mm most commonly. Lots of bottom brackets use a spacer to fit both. The design of your cranks then determine how much additional axle length you need to allow the chainrings to rotate unobstructed. After that body shapes may make a longer or shorter axle more comfortable to pedal. Efficiency dictates using the shortest axle one can, less weight and flex.

If yours fits it's probably correct.

I would be careful here.

The first and most important factor with determining spindle length is chainline.

Chainline is the alignment of the front chainrings in relation with the rear cogs. Considering the complexity of multiple chainrings, different speed cassettes, bb spacing, rear axle spacing.

Bottom line: chainline should be not guessed.

If your chainline is wrong, you could shift your derailleur into the wheel or the chain could damage the frame.

Without assuming anything, I would take to a shop which a chainline tool and knows how to use it.
