The PBO wheels are actually pretty awesome. I had a few sets (both 'cross and XC) back in '00 or '01, and I really liked them. The high tension makes a wheel that rides well, and the spoke material seems to have a longer fatigue life than stainless. It is easy enough to replace the rim with the same model off the shelf, but afaik they don''t offer custom spokes, so you are stuck with crappy doubletracks for the DH wheels.
As a side note, yes they are incredibly, incredibly slow on the road due to the spokes width, at above about 15mph they feel like a windtrainer.
