I have just come by a nice used set of Spinergy Revex 650 rims and tires. I own a road bike and a mountain bike. I would like to use the rims but they won't work with the brakes on the road bike - diameter too small. The size may work on my mountain bike but the rims are narrow (road vs. MTB). I was thinking of trying a 1.5" tire on them. Anyone here ever put 650's on a mountain bike or have any advice on what will work and more importantly what will not work?

Uhm... Aren't 650's just a specially sized road wheel?

I don't think they're the same diameter as normal mountain bike wheels.

You could use them with disc brakes, but not with rim brakes - and your fork and/or chainstays/seatstays might be a limiting factor (it might hit the arch of the fork or rub the frame). I wouldn't really trust a road rim to handle the forces imparted to it by a mountain bike.

My thought? Sell 'em. I don't think you'll find a good use for them unless you have a frame specifically designed for 650's.
