i am redoing an old mech and making it new again. how the hell can i get the snap ring out of the hanger bolt? any tried and true methods?

Isn't it just an e-clip? If it's a true snap ring, get snap ring pliers.

IMO, it's not worth doing maintenance on anything x9. The derailleurs have a finite life and just generally go to ****.

LOL just did it 5 hours ago...

A metal pic tool like a dentists tool, I pulled it off the broken X9 today to snag parts...

If its the bolt that hooks to the hanger push on it from the backside and to the side a smidge it will lock the clip and allow you to put pressure with the pick tool and get it lifted..

sick thanks. i have a old x9 and the only thing wrong with it is that the hanger bolt is stripped along with the hanger it is threaded into. right now i got a zip tie keeping things nice and tight with whats left of the threads. still shifts well and hasn't fallen off even after bunches of runs.
