Anybody know if this combination fits? It is a 2002 RFX and the Turner site says that it needs a bottom swing top pull derailleur. Hoping to get this issue solved for tomorrow so that I can get out and ride my new bike.

Unfortunately my experiences just proved differently. The cage is too large to clear the swingarm and allow the chain to pass over the cage. Shame. Guess I will have to buy something Shimano.

Shame, anyone want to buy an X-Gen?

You put it too low on the seat tube... (are you running 2 rings)? You need to put any der in the same position that it would be for 3 rings (3mm above the teeth of a 44 tooth ring), even if you only have two rings. If you lower the der. , it will hit the chainstay yoke at full compression.

Go over to mtbr Turner boards and search...

^^^ is correct. Regardless of how high or low the derailleur is the chain still rubs on the bottom of the cage when I try and get down to the granny gear. I think the problem is the size of the cage, it seems quite a bit larger than the Shimano equivalent.

To see how low I could possibly get it I removed a shock bolt and at full compression the front derailleur rests just a tiny bit above the main pivot. Even in that position it is too high for the chain to pass over with no intereference.

if he puts it at the necessary height, the chain rubs on the bottom of the cage.
It will hit the cage at zero sag (most mid travel bikes do this). As soon as the bike is sagged (it will be ANY time someone is actually riding it) at all the der will not hit. You will never be riding in small-small combo, or anywhere close, if you shift correctly.

Mount the thing at the standard height (3mm above a 44 tooth ring) and go ride, it is that simple.

As i said before check mtbr if you want more confirmation.

I will give that a shot. The guy I purchased it from posted as FM on MTBR and I have been in contact with him. Tomorrow I will see if what you say does indeed work.
