conditions were getting worse at the top but we were at the bottom part of the track and the rain didnt set in there until after his run. You hear him on Freecaster after Warner runs out to hug him and the commentary stops that he changed to cut down spikes at the last minute. Dont know what Sam was running?

Whether that helped him or not doesnt matter, he shredded Hill by 1.3 seconds in worsening conditions and there was only 5 seconds covering the top 10, the man deserves his legend status :D

Beating Sam Hill at one World Cup isn't why Steve carries legend status,

It's the unmatched career that he has had, it has taken him a bit longer then Nico to get to 16 wins and Nico's Worlds record is hard to comprehend really,
But nobody has had more fun and this much success at the same time, all the while being the most grounded, unselfish person willing to give back to the sport and junior riders.
What Steve does is amazing really.

...from the mouth of another legend.

Couldn't have said it better myself - Steve is exemplary in his conduct - looks to be a great guy too, the kind you want to grab a beer with. Most of all, his love of the sport has allowed him to stay on top longer than any current rider out there. Rock on Peaty!

What year did he do the World cup? 2006 or 2007? Maybe more then one year? :)
He's out of his league with the current crop of racers IMO. He could definitely hold his own on some tracks but he was struggling at Champery - as were most of the other racers.

He tried, it didn't come out so good.
Qualifying 5th on one of the hardest courses ever isn't good for you???? I bet many currently active US riders would have killed to have that result.

I think it is stupid to argue who is the bigger legend....they are all legends, each in their own way!

I am not arguing about sh1t...just saying Nico tried a comeback and it did not go so well. And you bring up how someone 'qualified' .

well i would say it is at least somewhat relevant considering that rain was a MAJOR factor in the final. Only one of the top 5 qualifiers made it into the top 25 in the final, and that was Hill. I don't think that is normally how it works at a world cup.

Nico has won races when the rain came, when dry for everyone else. Nothing new.
Get over it.
Nico is legendary.

Peat is the GOAT.

Steve Peat can divide by zero.

Steve Peat can lead a horse to water and make him drink.

If you have five pounds and Steve Peat has five pounds, Steve Peat has more money than you.

When Steve Peat rides, he doesn't go forward, he makes the earth move backwards.

When Sam Hill goes to sleep, he checks under the bed for Steve Peat.

nico is a full time rally racer!
considering, that he jumped on a bike for fun and qualified fifth in a WC, i'd say, that's a solid performance. bad luck during the race run can happen, no drama at all.
and winning the IRC-title ain't too shabby either....

Yeah I don't think Nico was too far out of his element....maybe not good enough for him personally, but hardly a failure by any other standards (except maybe Stik's).

Yeah I don't think anyone can honestly belittle his "comeback".

*Nico's Alarm clock*: beep! Beep! Beep!
Nico: YAAAAWN...STRETCH.....Hmmm.I think I'll try racing DH again for the hell of it
Naysyaer: But Nico! You haven;t been practicing!
Nico: *Shrugs*

Two days later: *see post #74*

Come on, when Vouilloz was actually IN the game, Peat was never able to beat him. Onesy twosey races on occasion....He came close in 2001? when he was in the points lead, but then he crashed at Grouse and messed up his shoulder I think?

Had Vouilloz stayed in, I'm sure Peat would have always been nipping at his heels. But I guess Nico had nothing left to prove or accomplish, so he retired. And what race was it when Nico's bike tech was MIA so he had to wrench his own bike?

Peat is great...and I know you're sticking up for your friend, and that's cool....but come on...you know deep down, the Alien was super human when it came to DH.

IIRC Nico did at least 1 Mega, some French national races and trained with Fabien Barel, Julien Camellini etc. also Nico was king of preperation and planning so it would go against his personality to just do a world cup out of the blue without even throwing a leg over a bike in however many years.
