I have a new 03 Jr. T. Just started using it, the preload is fine but it is too soft. i can almost bottom in from just doing an endo. i dont really have any real riding time on it but from what i can tell from just tooling around its too soft. the adjustment knobs on top seem to effect nothing, including preload. Are there any other adjustments i can do to make it stiffer? or do i need to get an oil/spring change. the manual is not very helpful.

thanks!

try some atf, if that doesnt work, get some stiffer springs. both are bonehead easy to do and wont cost much either.

atf?

i just took the top caps off, where the "adjustment knobs" are and there is nothing connecting them to anything, they just spin. so they are there for show? i remember hearing about that, lame.

what about oil change? i weigh 145 lbs. maybe 10wt oil?
can that be picked up at a motorcycle dealer, if so what kind of oil is it?

and an oild change...that mostly consists of just draining the oil and the pouring new oil in??

thanks again

the adjustment knobs connect to the rods

try adding some oil to both legs. new forks come low with oil. my 03 super did then added just a little bit and it was a whole lot stiffer

they do? because i took the caps off, stuck that white tool sorta thing that came with the fork down there and hit oil, no rods.

adding the oil sounds good, what weight?

atf= automatic transmission fluid. the preload knobs just spin and add load to the fork springs.

well then maybe mine has a problem. there is nothing that the underside of the knobs are hitting. they just spin, they do not raise/lower when turning them with them off the fork.

which backs up them not making any difference when turned. when turned all the way either way +/- there is no difference in preload.

adding some 7.5 wt oil changed everything, now the preload even works.

thanks for the suggestions

I've had to add a little oil (I used 10wt) to both an 03 Jr. T and my current 04 Super T....it makes all the difference.
BTW-I weigh 170-175 with gear, stock springs work fine with preload all the way down.

wanna take some pics? im having a hard time grasping what you are saying
I think he's saying that when he turns his pre-load knobs, nothing extends from the bottom of the knobs inside the fork. So no pressure is added to the springs.
