Stinky owners I gotta Question

On my frame there is a shock mount bracket welded between the seat tube and the tube that runs up to the head tube. The lower part of the shock is attatched to this frame bracket. Mine has two holes about an inch apart as if the shock could be connected to either hole. My shock is mounted to the front hole. What is the back hole for? The Shock is a Vanilla R if that matters.

Also the Fox instructions are a bit vague on setting up this shock. I put a zip tie on the shaft and set it for 20-25% sag. I think that may be to light though. I'm 5'10"-175 pounds and I have the stock 650 pound spring on my bike. Does this sound OK?

the front hole is for linear rate suspension and the rear hole is for rising rate - it gets firmer throughout the travel. i switched it to the rear and it seems to make a difference

Wanted to warn other stinky owners. My front shock mount for the rear shock is showing frame wear:angry: I have had the 2002 for 5 months....with a vanilla R 650# spring.

I originally discovered it from play in the rear triangle, thought it was loose wheel/hub/or seat; nope they were okay. I isolated the frame movement, by holding the wheel to the ground and pulling on the seat tube. I took apart the shock to find the play (I thought I bent the mounting bolt); and I recently took it apart and cleaned and greased it all 4 weeks ago--it was fine.

I discovered the Threaded part of the Bolts Kona uses for shock mounting comes into contact with:

1) the internal shock mount on the bottom and top of shock housing

2) where the bottom bolt attaches through the frame on one side (pics to follow)

I am going to see if I can get a Custom Bolt that has the threading *Only* where it comes into contact with other threaded parts; otherwise the Bolt Shaft should be smooth to inhibit bolt play in the frame/shock housing. I guess it is possible the bolt is slightly bent but i didn't notice any play recently, until i did very short 2 min DH run last fri....

I will probably use the other shock mount position as it appears to be snug.

This is probably "wear and tear" though, and not a warranty item. Why would you put the threaded bolt into the smooth part of a frame connection?
