I have a pretty similar stack of tires as Dennis and Damo and I just gave away 10+ tires to the local College Cycling Team. I have been thinking about building something like what Damo has pictured on the top of the back wall. But I also want to be able to hang bikes vertically underneath it. From what I have pictured in my head it seems like the best use of space.

Mount a series of door hinges on a board on your wall. Hang a chain from the ceiling and build a square frame with slots for each tire to drop into, almost like a section of fence. Suspend one end of your wooden frame against the hinges, and hook the chain to the other end.

One frame could hold a block of about 10 tires. That way you just unhook the chain and a group of them hinge down to pluck a tire out. You'd need about 5 frames.

I could draw a picture of it better, but damn it's a brilliant idea.

since it's just a tire, you could probably slip the tire thru the slot instead of unhooking it every time...
