So last night in seattle we had this gnarly lightning storm. i was adjusting the suspension on my car and took it out for a test around 9:00. saw major lightining over in the moutains, so i decided to drive out and get an up close look. went up i90 till the storm was to my left, and continued following closer and closer down county roads. to get to the point, after an hour of chasing, i was right in the freakin middle of the lighning on this mountain road to nowhere (this is in my convertible, so i was looking up at the open sky) lightning bols were striking all around my car (closest one at this point was prolly 1000 feet) It was in all directions any way i looked, there were big blue bolts. you could look up, and see bolts traversing the clouds overhead, it was nuts. when the bolts strike, seein it that close up, they are made of tons of tiny little bolts, and after they hit, they leave this plasmalike residue in the sky the sape of the bolt, that "floats up" and away. so i decided to take a side road that went up to the top of a hill. this gave me a great 360 degree veiw with no trees, so you could see where it was hitting the ground. (btw, im scared outa my mind at this point) i was prolly goin 10 miles an hour. It started to rain, so i headed back the way i came, and started raining more, and i was now following the storm back home. then all of a sudden all hell broke loose. it started absoluty POURING. felt like someone was soaking me with a high volume low presure hose, so i pulled over top put the top up. and thats when the lighning really starded to hit. i was all around, no more that 500 feet away. i could feel the clap pond in my chest, and the while trying to get the top up and get the hell outta there. i wasnt entierly sure i wasnt going to get hit, standing on the ground and being soaking wet. so i got the top up and drove home FAST, and was under the effin storm all the way home. i was no longer keen on being in that situation, being cold wet, and i couldnt see the sky with the top up. got home, the power was out and there was tree debris all over the place. i was pretty glad to get home (this was at 1:30 am)
but what a cool thing it was in retrospect. if felt like armageddon. just thought id share, and see who else has storm stories

We had one that hit in the middle of winter this year. For some reason those are way more powerful then summer ones, but holy crap this thing was crazy. I heard the wind and the rain when i was sitting at the computer, so i opened the front door to check it out, only to be smacked in the face by the door as it was blown open. It literally knocked me on the floor. My dad had to help me shut it. Blew a bunch of trees down and littered my whole neighborhood with branches, it was cool!

the weather folks around here have a hard time, I don't even listen to them. just look outside if I want to know what the weather is like. and if I'm planning something in advanced, I just assume it's going to rain...:)

I got a good storm story for ya.

A couple of years ago me and my wife were riding urban in down town Louisville. But we could see a storm coming in so we decided to load up. As we were loading up lighting was starting to crack all around us. Well I got to put my bike in the roof rack and a bolt strikes somewhere real close cause it knocked me off my feet. It takes a few minutes for me to realize whats going on. But as soon as I do I run to the other side of the car to see my wife sitting on the pavement with a dazed look in her eyes. After a few seconds she snaps back to reality and says she's okay.

That's when I hear a woman screaming behind me. So I jump up and notice that 2 black couples (it will matter later), were amlost to they're car which was parked behind us, but didn't make it.

It looked like they got knocked on their butts too, but one lady fell forward and busted her head open and was unconcious.

So I run over there and all 3 of them are freaking out. I tell them to step back and let me take a look. Well, right away I notice the gash on her forehead and that she's bleeding profusly. I ask one of the guys if he's got a towel or something, which he says he doesn't. Well that's when my wife comes over and I tell her to grab the towel and cell phone out of the car. And while she was gone, I started checking vital signs, and noticed she was barely breathing. So by then my wife was back and I take the towel from her and put it on her wound and told her to call for an ambulance and tell them she's breathing but barely. That's when I notice her nose, and her finger tips are black and the toes of her shoes are blown off. So I tell my wife to tell them that she was hit directly in case that mattered. BUt wouldn't you know it, the phone got zapped also, so no cell phone.

Well in the middle of all this bedlam, one of the guys comes over to me and says leave her alone. I looked up with a confused look on my face, when the other guy comes at me from the other side and pushes me down (I was kneeling down at the time). Then the guy screamed, "Leave us alone whitey!".

I just sat there in total shock as they picked her up and proceeded to load her in the back of the Caddie. So I said "she needs to go to a hospital before she stops breathing", then the guy said "You people have done enough for us already. Forget you ever saw us you cracker ass cracker!"

Then they got into their car and drove off.

Good times...

At least my life ain't boring!

to special o: it always rains in Washington espcially western Washington. but yeah sincei like in west Texas we get gnarly storms here when it does happen to rain. it usally starts raining so hard you can see across the road and then the rain blows so hard it rains dirt and blows mud. and the lightning here is always so nasty it strikes a couple hundred feet from you all the time and sometimes closer. i was driving through a storm in the middle of the desert and the road was flodding so bad the water almost covered my tires completley and then lightning strikes and i look out the window of my truck and i see a yucca blow up and flames goin into the sky. that was very cool
