Despite cool temperatures and fading light, a huge crowd hung out, drank, made noise and watched Kyle Strait and Jill Kintner take the wins at the Crankworx Slalom event.

The first official event of this year's festival attracted some big guns, with Lopes, Michal Prokop, Johannes Fishbach, Filip Polc and other big name World Cup 4x specialists on the start list.

Strait went head to head with Lopes and despite being gated twice, managed to put the power down and stay ahead of the legendary 4x and slalom rider to take home the victory. In the final run, strait got a roar out of the crowd when he completely obliterated the second berm, sending clouds of dust and grit into the air as he headed for the finish.

In the women's event Kintner had a small scare against Canadian Micayla Gatto when she miss judged the gate and got hung up. She managed to come back mid course however and take back the lead and move on to the finals against the winner of the last world cup 4x, Fionn Griffiths. Griffiths was no match for the American, and Kintner took home a convincing win with Griffiths going down in the final heat after giving it everything she had.
