Just saw a dog wandering around in my neighborhood, I went and got some treats and attempted to approach it, threw one treat at him/her then held another out, the dog came up to me to get it and gently took it out of my hand. I then tried to pet him/her but it shyed away very quick and walked away, the dog doesnt look skinny, kind of over weight. But its fur looked very dirty and very greasy, I feel bad because I couldn't help it, it had tags and everything but I just couldn't get close enough and didn't want to get bitten.

Maybe call the dog catcher? I have four cats and I always hope people are nice to them, since they are pretty nice cats. On a side not, a pitbull almost took me out on my road bike the other day. He came out of a blind driveway and I barely was able to outrun him and he wasn't looking very nice.
what kind of pooch was it? Animal control is probably the best thing to do. Will likely end up in the pound but hopefully it's owner is smart enough to know to look there.
I posted about a dog I found a couple of weeks ago ... it's still in my house!
