Here's the deal:

Someone payed me to tune up their bike, so I took the derailleur off to straighten the hanger. The first few threads were stripped out, so I accidentally cross-threaded the tool and messed up the hanger. I don't want to buy a new one, as I'm leaving in a few hours to go backpacking and I don't have time to drive 45 min. to the Trek shop. What are my other options? I've heard of helicoils, but what are they? How long does it take? :help:

Thanks guys!

I know I've waited like a minute, but does anyone know? I'm really pressed for time as it is.

I'd say you're hosed if you already don't know what a HeliCoil is and you're trying to get t done in an hour.
If you have another bike shop closeer they MIGHT have a replacement peice that is a elongated nut. You drill out the der. hanger bolt hole so that the new nut comes in from the backside and slips in and you bolt the der into that.

These area good fix, but a helicoil works best, in most situations.

Good luck
