both my caps are stuck, really stuck.

anyone else had this problem? any advice?

you cant knock them through from the other side as they're flush with the DW link.

there's no space around the caps to get any purchase on them to lever them out?
frame is 2006 with a red dw link and i cannot remove the DW link from the front end.

the cap appears to have a shaft of 3cm or so that goes through the bearing and into dw link

any help much appreciated!

regards,
Carl

I've done a rebuild on a Sunday that had this problem as well.

I got hold of a bolt with a flat head, much like this one:

I filed it down so it looked like an "L".
The size of it allowed it to fit through the hole and the lip of the "L" was placed in the gap behind the cap.

Then I put a metal rod in from the other side and was able to hit the head of the modified "L" to get the cap out.

VERY tedious, but I worked my way around the gap carefully and eventually it was pushed out.

finally got it out! it was proper stuck in there.

tools i needed;

a punch
drill
pin spanner
9mm tap and die thread cutter
nail
hammer ;D

ok step one; drill two hole either side of the cap

step two: place your pin spanner in the holes to top it rotating

step three; hold yoru pin spanner to stop cap rotating and cut a 9mm thread through the cap. cut thread 2cm

step four; place a nail through the other cap to meet the thread cutter

step five; hammer the f**ker out!

i'd just like to point out i bought this frame secondhand 3 weeks ago and had nothing to do with it getting into this state in the firstplace!

just like to thank ben from Torico in dorset for his help this afternoon, i'll drop some drill bits in next time i'm around! :)
