The children of lesbians outscored their peers on social and academic tests in the longest-running study on same-sex families so far - a fact the researchers think opponents of gay adoption should take into consideration.

The U.S. study, published in the journal Pediatrics, followed 78 children since 1986 who were born into lesbian families via sperm donors.

The mothers volunteered for the research before their children were born, and the kids were tested and interviewed at the age of 17.

The mothers were a mishmash of steady couples, separated couples, and single moms who sought out known sperm donors or visited anonymous clinics.

Marital and donor status had no effect on the children's performance, the study found.

The adolescents were tested using the Achenbach's CBCL/6 *1, a standard questionnaire that measures social and academic performance and is widely used in academic studies on children.

Compared to other CBCL stats, the children in this study performed as well, and often better, than their peers raised by heterosexual parents.
so 78 kids is a sufficient sample set for all of lesbianism?
where is the equiv gay male study?
are the results - if accurate & comprehensive - "better" due to more stringent internal standards by lesbian couples knowing beforehand they were being studied?

Riding the baggage carousel.
Anecdotally I would say this is true. I know two lesbian couples with a child a piece and in both incidences both children are very well mannered and excel in both school and extra curricular activities i.e. sports, dirt bike racing etc. In the case of the couple across the street from us here, I know that they are very conscious of the additional scrutiny they are under by the so called “straight” “Christian” community. Their yard and house are impeccable too.

I LOL'd at the tags.

i love the gushing editorializing over at sfgate: Study: Children of lesbian couples better off

oddly, they only considered lesbian couples who were donor inseminated, which i believe is significant in that these are more likely to be "lifers", than those who came out after starting a straight family.

so a more accurate headline might be "lesbian couples who are 93% white, parents to an only child from birth, impregnated with donor sperm, who volunteered for this study before they became parents, were determined to have better adjusted & behaved children than parents of non-volunteer heterosexual couples, without qualification as to family size"

so, the data can also be used to demonstrate:
- non-adoption strongly demonstrates healthy psychological adjustment
- white parents strongly demonstrates healthy psychological adjustment
- same race as mother strongly demonstrates healthy psychological adjustment
- a one child rule strongly demonstrates healthy psychological adjustment
- actively tracking parent/child progress determines strong demonstrates healthy psychological adjustment

The average gay and lesbian couple are better educated then the average straight couple which gives them a better chance of having more economic security and having access to better schools then average straight parents will be able to give their children. Better education means these children will outscored their peers on social and academic tests.

while this may be true, this study doesn't address it

however, you also find closet cocksuckers are uneducated, southern, white, republicans. or urban blacks on the dl.

so from this it can be demonstrated that college makes you more likely to admit you're gay

Makes sense that any couple who have to go through significant effort to have children might be better parents than the general population where a significant number end up being parents as the result of too many tequila shots.

i too don't care one whit, esp after the white trash "traditional" couple across the st [since moved] adopted 3+ just to sustain their lifestyle of sponging unemployment. they pretty much warehoused their guests, who you only saw when the amberlamps showed up to escort them off the property when they had a freak-out due to imbalanced meds (they took on the mentally challenged for maximum $$$).

i can't help but think if it were a gay couple they would have lost the adoptees upon the first violation or home visit.
