I've had a Forester for a couple years with no real problems after about 60K of driving. Everything I've paid for has been normal wear and tear. I have the standard model. It's not exactly "fun" to drive, but it works, doesn't break and is highly functional. I've taken trips all up and down the east coast, winters in New England, driven basically across the country and back twice with no issues. It even has a few hundred miles of dirt/gravel roads from living in VT and also working for the Forest Service for a while. Tons of room. Great vehicle for a mountain biker. I guess my only complaint is that it isn't that comfortable to sleep in...but most people don't consider this an issue.

I've averaged 26.1 MPG for 15,000 miles in the Outback with a roof rack, 2 bike carriers & a kayak rack. Before I put that crap on I was averaging 30 MPG.
