from corporate donors might just turn out to be a bad thing?

(Perry's) gubernatorial campaigns, for example, have received nearly $30,000 from the drugmaker since 2000, most of that before he issued his vaccine mandate, which was overturned by the Texas legislature.

Merck and its subsidiaries have also given more than $380,000 to the Republican Governors Association (RGA) since 2006, the year that Perry began to play a prominent role in the Washington-based group, according to data from the Center for Responsive Politics.
Do I dare get a glimmer of hope that the media might *actually* be focusing on how money influences politics?

OT: perry is awesome. he says he wants "to make Washington, D.C., as insignificant in our lives as possible" yet he is willing to mandate that people have something injected in their bodies.

that's small government thinking

Riding past the morgue.
What I find astonishing is that a man who has repeatedly and closely skirted secessionist talk with a "wink-wink-nudge-nudge" is the apparent GOP front runner. WTF?

there is a perverse part of me that wants the psycho repubs (not you $tinkle) to take complete control for a year or two (while I watch from the sidelines out of harms way of course) and then record the carnage. upon which, I go back in time and play it back to anyone who thinks that the new GOP way of handling fiscal budgets will really result in anything else other than "Idiocracy".

In regards to Perry, let's not forget that he was once a democrat. I hate flip-floppers. Unfortunately, while he may end up the republican candidate, he will never get the vote of our moderate/conservative household. He really really did wrong by the teachers and education system in Texas recently. My wife is a teacher....

How's playing the footage from the 2000s working out for you?

Union political donations are voluntary contributions by its members. CEO contributions are made from the profits of selling goods to consumers... See the difference?
From the general Union fund, no? If you are required to be union to work somewhere, that is not voluntary.

Every member can request a refund of any money that isn't used to represent them, including political donations. Try going to Verizon and asking for a refund of whatever part of your monthly bill that goes to political contributions that you don't agree with.

If you request your refund, are you no longer a member of the union? What about locations that require individuals to be union members (UPS is one example I can think of).

Seriously?
Legitimate question. I live in a world of survival of the fittest, so I don't know the intricacies of union memberships. The interactions I did have were very briefly when going through the process of starting at UPS, when they said I was required to join the union.

Thank goodness for Right to Work states. The union pressured me to join when I was at the USPS...told them to shove it and never looked back. Most miserable place I have ever worked in my life. Even worse than combat.

If you don't live in a "right to work" state and a union is representing you (and your coworkers) you have to pay dues to avoid the free-ride aspect. HOWEVER, the US Supreme Court ruled that you're entitled to a refund of any money that's not spent representing your interests (ie, campaign donations that you don't agree with). You fill out the form, send it in, and get a refund. It's federal law.

I asked if you were serious since the right-wing typically lies about this all the time...
